Whole-Home Audio Installation in Garland, TX and DFW

Whole-home audio is the category that delivers the most consistent lifestyle benefit of any home AV investment. Not movie night once a week — music in every room, every day. Kitchen in the morning, outdoor speakers during dinner on the patio, bedroom music before bed, all controlled from one app, all independent zones.

Most whole-home audio systems we’re asked to expand or replace have the same problem: they were installed as an afterthought — a few ceiling speakers here, a receiver there, no thought to how the zones connect or what happens when someone wants to play different music in different rooms. We install systems designed from zone one.

Sonos Whole-Home Audio Installation — The Most Common Choice

Sonos is the default recommendation for most DFW whole-home audio projects. App-based control, wide product range, excellent music service integration (Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, Pandora), and the system scales easily from 2 zones to 16+.

Sonos zone types we install:

Architectural speakers with Sonos Amp — Most common setup. In-ceiling or in-wall speakers connected to a Sonos Amp in an equipment closet. One Sonos Amp powers one zone (two speakers). Premium sound quality, invisible installation.

Sonos One or Sonos Era 100 — All-in-one speakers for bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, offices. No wiring required. WiFi-connected. $250-$300 per speaker.

Sonos Arc + Sub + One SL pair — For TV rooms. Arc soundbar handles TV audio, subwoofer for bass, two rear One SL speakers for surround. Integrates with the whole-home music system.

Sonos Move or Roam — Portable outdoor speakers. Battery-powered, WiFi and Bluetooth. Good for small outdoor gatherings. Not a replacement for proper outdoor installation.

Typical Sonos whole-home installation in DFW:

Total typical Sonos whole-home system: $8,000-$12,000 for 6 zones.

Sonos vs Control4 Audio — When to Use Which

Sonos wins when:

Control4 audio distribution wins when:

For most DFW homeowners, Sonos handles the job and costs significantly less than Control4.

In-Ceiling vs In-Wall Speakers

In-ceiling speakers — The default for whole-home audio. Mounted in the ceiling, fire cones up toward the seating area. 6.5” or 8” drivers typical. Most rooms need a pair (left and right).

In-wall speakers — For specific applications where in-ceiling isn’t practical. Typically used for surround sound, not whole-home audio.

Speaker brands we install:

Typical speaker pricing: $300-$1,200 per pair installed depending on brand and grade.

Outdoor Audio Integration

Most whole-home audio systems extend outside. Patio, pool deck, outdoor kitchen, or backyard landscape areas. Options:

Architectural outdoor speakers — Designed to mount on eaves, pergola beams, or exterior walls. Weatherized for Texas conditions. Sonance Mariner series, Triad OD series.

Landscape speakers — Buried speakers that look like landscape lighting. Distributed throughout the yard for even coverage. Sonance Landscape series is the premium option.

Portable Sonos speakers — Sonos Move or Roam for occasional outdoor use. Battery-powered, easy to reposition.

Existing Pre-Wire Installation Service

Many DFW homes built 2005-2020 were pre-wired for speaker cable to common rooms during construction. We use existing pre-wire when possible — it saves significant labor cost. Typical pre-wire checking takes 30 minutes during the consultation.

If your home has pre-wire: installation is typically 40-60% faster and cheaper than homes requiring new cable runs.

If your home doesn’t have pre-wire: we run new cables. In-wall and in-ceiling cable routing is much easier in single-story homes with attic access, harder in two-story homes or homes with concrete construction.

Whole-Home Audio for New Construction

For new construction or major renovation, we prefer getting involved during framing. Speaker cable runs are dramatically cheaper before drywall goes up. Typical pre-wire package for a new DFW home:

Typical pre-wire cost during construction: $3,500-$8,500. Compared to retrofitting later: $8,000-$18,000. If you’re building or renovating, get this done during construction.

Whole-Home Audio Installation FAQs

How much does whole-home audio installation cost in Dallas? 2-zone system: $3,500-$5,500. 4-zone system: $5,500-$9,500. 6-zone system: $8,000-$14,000. 8+ zone systems: $12,000+. Pricing includes speakers, amps, installation, and configuration.

Can I add Sonos to my existing ceiling speakers? Yes, in most cases. We test existing speakers for impedance and connection quality. If they’re functional, we add Sonos Amps in the equipment location and integrate the existing speakers into the Sonos system.

What’s better — Sonos or in-ceiling speakers? Both can be in-ceiling. Sonos is the control platform; in-ceiling speakers are the hardware. Best installations combine both — in-ceiling speakers powered by Sonos Amps for each zone. Pure Sonos One speakers work for small rooms, but in-ceiling installation sounds better in larger spaces.

Do I need WiFi for Sonos? Yes, Sonos uses WiFi for communication between speakers and control. Strong whole-home WiFi is essential. We recommend business-grade networking (Ubiquiti UniFi, Eero Pro) for homes with significant smart home or AV load.

Can I play different music in different rooms? Yes, that’s a core feature of proper whole-home audio systems. Sonos handles this natively — each zone is independently controlled. Anyone in the house can play different music in their room without affecting other zones.

How long does whole-home audio installation take? Retrofitting existing home with pre-wire: 1-2 days. Retrofitting existing home without pre-wire: 2-4 days. New construction pre-wire: 1 day during framing.
